About Our Homestead

This is, of course, only a picture of our barn.  As it says, this little patch of land was settled and established in 1887.  I have been here for only 3 years and my husband has lived here for going on 8 but before then, grew up running the barnyard when his grandparents owned and farmed here.

We have just shy of 3 acres of yard, and the farmland is cash rented to another (bigger) farm down the road.  We also have access to the "back 40" which is another 40 acres on which my father in law has some wild "protected" land that he tends during the year.

I recently added a 3500sq ft garden behind the barn, and am in the process of creating raised beds behind our garage for more easily accessible veggies.  I'm planning on mostly salad ingredients, like lettuce, tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.

Sweet Maple Green Beans

If you’re being good and eating your green beans, you may as well make a treat of them. These beans sautéed in butter and maple syrup are tender, sweet and delicious.
Ingredients:
2 cups green beans
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons maple syrup
Salt and pepper

How to Make It:

Steam green beans until softened. Melt the butter in a pan over medium heat. Add the maple syrup and green beans saute for a few minutes. Add salt and pepper to taste and serve.
